A shaft is every rotary component of a cylindrical shape. Therefore, the portfolio is limited to shafts used for: hydro power, wind power, shafts for surface and conventional mining and shafts for railway axles. This field includes also all other shafts, except for the ones for the shipbuilding industry, machine parts and forged bars. Shafts are available in rough machined condition, usually with a 5-10 mm allowance per surface, or final machined condition with holes in the flanges, surface treated, or with other special requirements, such as welding, or the assembly of liners, flywheels, collars and parts of bearings. As for delivery, the shafts are either preserved for short-term transport, or packed for oversea transport by using the seaworthy packaging, where wood and metal pedestals are used for loading. It's also possible to perform packaging according to customer requirements in wooden boxes and containerization.


Shafts transmit torque from the wind turbine blades to the generator. Towers located on the mainland are called On-Shore, and towers on the sea-shore are called Off-Shore. Shafts are delivered in both rough machined and final machined performance, including metallization of non-functional areas.


The system of shafts is connected in a vertical position and together transmits the torque from the turbine blades to the generator. The shafts are delivered both in rough machined and final machined performance. During final inspections, the connection test of the whole shaft system can be offered to customers, if they are produced in VÍTKOVICE HEAVY MACHINERY a.s. The most widely used parts are those of Kaplan and Francis turbines. Forged rings such as collar bearings or flywheels are often supplied with the shafts. 


Shafts are used to transfer torque for the purpose of grinding and separation of materials or for conventional underground mining. Shafts are of great significance also in the cement industry. The assembly of shafts (forgings) with other parts (castings) is often performed, which is one of the competitive advantages of VÍTKOVICE HEAVY MACHINERY a.s., since that option is provided to customers often. The entire production process is controlled by one company.


A shaft system ending with a shaft that goes through the rotor and the transmitted torque rotates the rotor. Pole plates which generate electrical current are placed in the grooves. The use of the rotor shaft is in water and steam turbines or conventional electric motors. The processing is the same as for other types of shafts, which is in rough machined (with allowance) or final machined condition with milled grooves.


They are used for the production of railway wheel sets (by pressing with the wheels).
